OASAL Limited is biotechnology startup promoting frontier technology particularly, circular economy using agricultural waste to produce innovative solutions and products. Our flagship project is focused on the cashew value chain and adapts innovative ideas focused on applying technology to enable the reuse of materials and removal of waste.

Prior to the start of the business, an extensive eighteen months (18) was dedicated to research, customer analysis, feasibility studies and industrial analysis to enable the development of a viable, feasible and a sustainable business model. Our research was intercity and saw us going to the Bono, Ahafo, Ashanti, Northern, Volta and Eastern regions of Ghana, where we implored observatory research, stakeholder engagements, and administration of questionnaires to enable us understand in detail the outlook of the cashew value chain in Ghana. We identified from the research into the cashew value chain, the problem of millions of cashew apples being left to rot in landfills and farm sites because there’s currently no use for them. The farmers currently have commercial value for the nuts only.

Our solution includes building a facility to process these cashew apples into ethanol, briquettes, biochar, and animal feed at Sampa; which is the cashew producing hub of Ghana and in consideration with its proximity to Cote d’Ivoire, another major cashew producing hub. This is a strategic direction for OASAL keeping in mind our vision of tapping into the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the opportunities of exporting our ethanol to neighboring countries.

OASAL is a duly incorporated and registered business limited by share in Ghana. Founded on February 17, 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck and incorporated on August 10, 2021, we have pushed through the barriers of the pandemic to continue with experimentation of our product, conducted various phases of our market research and also undertaken various tests and certification processes.

We adopt a multi-faceted, dynamic business model that delivers value for shareholders, the community we operate in and the environment. Aside synthesizing affordable ethanol, biochar, briquettes and animal feed from cashew apple waste, our model provides residual income for farmers, economic empowerment for youths in cashew growing areas and great carbon savings through our operations. Our carbon footprint savings are in excess of 162kgCO2 equivalent (i.e., Driving a car around the world 20 times, or 163 passengers flying London-New York) as estimated by the Climate Impact Forecast, Italy.

We are based in Accra, Ghana, 77 Nii Nortei Nyanchi Street, Dzorwulu, Accra – Ghana.
